  • Generally, in 1971 the series/model designation on the trim tag is not only a trim level but also an indication of the engine type installed in the vehicle. Arlington, Baltimore, Kansas City, and Van Nuys are the only three known plants to match the Fisher Body style number with the series/model of the VIN. Oshawa is not certain but Oshawa has done this from 1965 through 1970 and 1972 so it's fair to assume they did this in 1971 as well, I just do not have any examples to prove or disprove it.

  • The SS option package (RPO Z15) was changed from a performance option to more of a dress-up option and the SS option package RPO Z25 was dropped. Any optional V8 could be ordered with the SS Equipment option on a Chevelle sport coupe, convertible, or pickup. The Monte Carlo only offered the SS454 package (RPO Z20) with the 454 engine.

  • Arlington and Van Nuys continued the 1-3/4" x 4" trim tag size while Baltimore, Kansas City & Oshawa retained their 2-3/16" x 3-1/2" size.
